PRESS: Govt wants to set up state-controlled video games maker

MOSCOW, Dec 19 (PRIME) -- The Russian government wants to create a state-controlled developer and publisher of video games, and there are three scenarios of development with financing from U.S. $7 billion to $50 billion till 2030, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday quoting sources.

The government intends to set up a center of the industry’s coordination on the base of autonomous non-profit organization Digital Economy, a center of excellence on the base of Innopolis University, and a center for strategic development of the industry, which will be a new entity, called Rosgame, which will be established by several market participants.

Several scenarios are being drafted for Rosgame. The stabilization scenario stipulates the recovery of the industry in the country and Russia’s joining the top 20 countries-developers of games, and it will need $7 billion till 2030.

The ambitious scenario implies breakthrough development with $20 billion of investment. The leader scenario says that the country’s gaming studios will compete with the global majors by 2030 and needs $50 billion.

A representative of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, who is in charge of the matter, said that the Digital Development Ministry is to think the initiative through by February 20, 2023.
